We found beautiful fabric and excellent tailoring in the Bhomra workshop in Kolkata when we visited, as well as artisans who took pride in their work. The fabric, known as Jamdani, is handwoven by Bengali women and is the finest muslin made.
The floral motif on this dress is known as a Gaachpool, an ancient design that originated in Mughal workshops. Fitted through the bodice, and flared below, it is comfort personified. Wonderful details such as pockets, pintucks on the sleeves and bodice and full lining complete the effect.
